Adding your OpenAI key lets you create summaries without buying any credits.
Get Your OpenAI Key:
- Go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Postology > API Configuration > OpenAI API Key.
- Paste your OpenAI API key in the box. If you don’t have one, you can get it for free by signing up on the OpenAI website.
Choose a Model and Set Token Limits:
- Select a model based on your needs.
OpenAI has several models, each more advanced than the last:
- GPT-3.5: Good for basic summaries, but not as detailed.
- GPT-4: Better for complex topics with more accurate summaries.
- GPT-4o Mini: A smaller, cost-effective version of GPT-4.
Choosing a Model:
- Performance: Higher models like GPT-4 provide better quality.
- Costs: Advanced models may cost more. If you need high-quality summaries often, consider investing in a better model. For simpler needs, GPT-3.5 or GPT-4o Mini are good choices.
Cost
Creating the API is free, but there are costs for each generation. Prices are approximately $0.10 for 100 generations, often less. Costs depend on the amount of content to summarize and your configuration settings.
About Token Limits: In the context of OpenAI, a token is roughly equivalent to a word. The token limit you set determines the maximum length of your summaries. The default is 500 tokens, which is about 500 words, but you can adjust this based on your needs.
Note on Credits: By using your own OpenAI API key, you won't need to use Postology credits for generating summaries. This means you can create as many summaries as you want without worrying about running out of credits.
Security Note: Treat your OpenAI API key like a password. Never share it publicly to avoid unauthorized use.
Monitoring Usage: Monitor the usage of your OpenAI key in your OpenAI dashboard. It will show how many tokens you're using, helping you to avoid going over your limits. Be aware that exceeding your usage limits may lead to extra charges or slower performance.
